Horse Mane Flies!

I tied these up for rock bass and creek smallies.  The go to material is" horse mane" from the Garrett Farm.  Horse hair doesn't flare up like buck tail and helps give your fly a nice straight profile when used as the base material.  Then you can add other materials like crystal flash and congo hair to fluff it up a bit.  A small red treble hook as a trailer works great for bass but can be very dangerous to cast!

Ultra Light Carpin!

Nina and I hit the crick  with the ultra light rod for chubs. This nice surprise spooled the rod in a hurry.  Gulp wax worm paired with a ripe mulberry, it's ok to use bait if you have at least one kid with you.

Myers Lake Bass Masters!

Brock, Shane, and Steelieman on Brock's brand new 20ft pontoon.  Lots of smallies and large mouth in the 10 to 14 inch range.

Brock's stuff is soo new even the plastic and price tags are on the rods.  The fish didn't seem to mind.

Steelieman with a couple clean fish.

Kid Coyote Ends Steelhead Season On the Fly!

We were able to avoid the rain all day and find one last pod of steelhead to end the season. Levi had 2 fish snap the line off before he knew what happened.  Then it all came together, nice catch and release!

Male taken on egg pattern.

Gentle release and he shot back towards the big lake!

Chagrin River Report!

Chagrin is running low and clear with flow around 140cfs.  Cold cloudy day in low 40's.   Really had to work for the couple fish we landed .  All fish caught in fast riffles on nymphs and eggs.  We need some April showers to bring in a fresh batch of fish.   Keith was happy with several hookups and landing his first hen on the fly rod with a size 12 bead head nymph.

At a loss for words on this one?

Nice buck in full spawning colors.

Happy Easter!

Spike and I started the day out on Tinkers Creek-  a small tributary off the Cuyahoga River.  Not impressed,  but we both landed a bunch of white suckers.  Sporty little fish if you would target them with light tackle.  Headed over to the Chagrin and not much was going on there either.  High 70's and strong winds put the fish down.  Spike brought a light lunch, first time I enjoyed cake and coffee on the river.  Managed one large hen in fast pocket water!
